New Program - SubHub Evaluation Initial Report
In October 2023, ICFHT engaged the Centre for Community Based Research (CCBR) at the University of Waterloo to conduct an initial program evaluation of the SubHub. CCBR undertook the evaluation in close collaboration with ICFHT and members of external community agencies, including people with lived experience, who provided input into the design of the evaluation and its tools.
The first of two intended reports was released in August 2024. Overall, the initial report findings are highly positive. SubHub clients feel that the program offers them low-barrier, comprehensive supports delivered by dedicated and compassionate clinicians. SubHub is effectively supporting clients to manage their substance use more safely, and to make overarching improvements in their health and quality of life. They say SubHub differs from other substance use support programs they've experienced because of the range of services offered on-site and the flexibility and understanding shown by the providers. Some clients credit SubHub for helping them to reduce, and in some instances, stop using street substances altogether.
SubHub healthcare providers are gaining proficiency in the delivery of substance use care and support for their clients by learning about client preferences and establishing practical guidelines for clinic management.
